Our Story
Creating Community and Connections—One Cup at a Time
Aliʻi Coffee Co. Hawaiʻi began with a simple, heartfelt dream: to serve fresh, high-quality,
locally roasted coffee that brings people together. What started as a small operation in a garage in
2014 has since grown into a beloved island brand, known not just for amazing coffee but for the
strong sense of community and aloha woven into every cup. Our journey has always been about
more than coffee—it’s about people, connection, and sharing the vibrant flavors of Hawaiʻi with
the world.
From Garage Roaster to Island Favorite
Our story begins, where founder James Webb first started experimenting with small-batch coffee
roasting in his garage. Driven by a love for the craft and a deep connection to the islands, James
tested bean varieties, roast levels, and flavor profiles late into the night, always chasing that
perfect cup. Soon, his passion became something more.
Joined by his partner Will Gold, the pair brought their shared vision to life—starting with pop-
ups at local events, community gatherings, and farmers markets around Oʻahu. Word spread
quickly. Locals and visitors alike were drawn to the bright, flavorful brews and the welcoming
energy that surrounded each cup. Coffee wasn’t just something to sip—it became a reason to
connect.
By 2018, the dream took a major step forward with the opening of our first official brick-and-
mortar café in Downtown Honolulu. Since then, we’ve expanded across two islands with four
unique locations: Waikīkī (2020), Ward Village (2021), and our newest space in Kōloa, Kauaʻi
(2024). Every shop is a reflection of who we are—rooted in local culture, fueled by creativity,
and always full of good coffee and good vibes.
Coffee with a Local Heart
At Aliʻi Coffee Co., we’re proud to offer 100% Hawaiian coffee—single origin and roasted in-
house at our Chinatown roastery. We believe in honoring our local farmers, celebrating the
richness of the land, and sharing the incredible variety that Hawaiʻi-grown beans have to offer.
Our artisanal coffees are roasted in small batches to highlight the smooth, complex flavors that
make our coffee so special.
Freshness is everything to us. That’s why we keep every part of the process close to home—from
sourcing and roasting, to crafting our drinks and serving them up with aloha. Whether you’re
into a simple drip or a specialty latte, you can taste the difference in every cup.
Of course, we’re not afraid to have fun with it. Our signature Taro Ube Latte is a dreamy, creamy
local favorite. Our rotating draft cold brews are crisp, rich, and perfect for warm island days. And
if you’re hungry? We’ve got a food menu that’s just as thoughtful and delicious as our drinks.
Think: local-style breakfasts, housemade sandwiches (don’t skip the Turkey Avocado!), and
gluten-free mochi waffles topped with ube syrup that has a fan club of its own.A Space to Connect
We believe a coffee shop should be more than just a stop—it should be a space. A space to
breathe, to connect, to create. That’s why every Aliʻi location is designed with intention: open,
vibrant, and welcoming to all. Whether you’re stopping in for your morning brew, catching up
with friends, or settling in for an afternoon work session, you’ll find a seat, a smile, and a sense
of belonging.
Our baristas aren’t just skilled—they’re passionate. They know the craft, they know the regulars,
and they truly love what they do. That warmth and aloha spirit are a big part of what makes Aliʻi
feel like home.
But our commitment to community doesn’t stop at the counter. We’re constantly looking for
ways to support and uplift local artists, creators, and entrepreneurs. From in-store art displays
and handmade goods to collaborative pop-up events, we offer a platform for Hawaiʻi-based
talent to shine. Supporting local isn’t just a tagline—it’s a way of life.
Growing with Purpose
We’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come—from one garage in Honolulu to four vibrant
shops across the islands. But this is just the beginning. As we continue to grow, we remain
committed to staying true to our roots: local, authentic, and community-focused.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to introduce a new line of canned cold brews and ready-to-drink
favorites, so you can enjoy a taste of Aliʻi Coffee Co. wherever you are. It’s one more way we’re
expanding our reach while staying connected to the heart of who we are.
We’re not here to be the biggest—we’re here to be your favorite.

Why “Aliʻi”?
In Hawaiian, Aliʻi means royalty—and that’s exactly how we want you to feel when you step
into one of our cafés. Not in a fancy, over-the-top kind of way, but in the quiet, intentional way
that says: you matter, you’re valued, and you deserve something special. A little extra care, a
little extra joy, and a whole lot of aloha.
We chose the name Aliʻi not just to honor the beauty of the language, but to guide the way we
serve our community every day—with respect, generosity, and excellence.
Join Our Journey
Whether you’re a longtime regular or a first-time visitor, we’re so glad you’re here. Our mission
has always been the same: to create community and connections, one cup at a time. That mission
started in a garage back in 2014, and it continues to guide every decision we make.
So come through. Bring a friend. Try the cold brew. Talk story with our baristas. Stay a while.
We’re more than just a coffee shop—we’re your neighborhood hangout, your morning ritual,
your weekend vibe, your midweek pick-me-up.
And we can’t wait to share what’s next with you.
From our ʻohana to yours—mahalo, and we’ll see you soon.
